Centre of the world

Woodgrange has always had good travel links, since the days trams used to trundle through Forest Gate. The nearest underground is a bus-ride away, but National Rail and London Overground each have nearby stations. A short bus-ride to Stratford brings you to a big transport hub where you can catch Central Line and Jubilee Line trains and the Dockland Light Railway (DLR). National Rail trains also take you directly to the City and to Essex, Stansted and East Anglia. Stratford International Terminal has a fast direct line to St Pancras (7 minutes) and eastwards to Ebbsfleet. At some point it should include direct routes to Paris and Brussels and beyond in less than two hours.

It is just a few minutes drive to the M11 and the national motorway system. Air travellers have London City Airport close by, and there is an excellent coach service to Stansted Airport. Though some way off, when Crossrail is completed (due 2017), it will be possible to get trains from Forest Gate and Manor Park directly to Heathrow Airport.

Gospel truth

The London Overground (Barking-Gospel Oak line) has seen great improvements in recent years. Rolling stock has been upgraded and trains run every fifteen minutes throughout the day. This offers new ways of getting into and around London from Woodgrange Park station and Wanstead Park station. For example, it is only ten/fifteen minutes to Blackhorse Road and the excellent Victoria Line service. The downside is that it has become much more popular and crowded. However, during 2016/7, the line is being further upgraded and electrified. From Spring 2018, new rolling stock with four (instead of two) carriages will provide a much better service.

Go by boat

And if you are planning a day in London, why not try a Thames riverboat? Catch the 474 bus from Manor Park to North Woolwich, cross the river on the ferry and take a short walk to Woolwich Arsenal pier, where you can get a riverboat to The Embankment. It is a commuter service only, though, with the last morning sail at 9.42 a.m. There are later sailings from Greenwich and Canary Wharf piers.
